Wild Kids - Nature Detectives

Have you come across the Nature Detectives website from the Woodland Trust? It is a wonderful resource with lots and lots of seasonal activities.  I have download some of their activities before to give to the children who stay at Poltarrow.   Today Baby Guy and I embarked on the 'Early signs of spring nature hunt' which can be downloaded here.

Guy is an avid fan of having his naps outside - he sleeps SO much better when he is tucked up in his cosytoes in his pushchair, out in the fresh air.  So today we wrapped up, I put on my boots and we headed out for a jolly, good walk hoping to spot the 'signs'. We were able to tick a number off......

Hazel Catkins - there is a lot of Hazel in the lanes around Poltarrow.

Snowdrops - this one was easy as there are many clumps around the farm.

Bluebell Shoots - this one required a beady eye but eventually we came across some.

Primrose - there were plenty of these precious little flowers in the hedgerows making this an easy spot.

Another sign we could tick off was birdsong but obviously we couldn't get a photo of that!  We failed to tick off 'elder bud burst' and 'birds building nests' however we did add a couple of our own spots...
... sunshine yellow daffodils ...

... equally sunny Narcissus ...

 and lambs in the fields.

Guy was asleep for most of our walk but I had a good time looking out for the signs and practicing my photography.
