Days Out - Winter Sun at Caerhays Beach

I hope you have all having a lovely festive season, on Saturday we said goodbye to the guests that had stayed with us for Christmas and welcomed those arriving to spend the New Year.

Yesterday Spence, Guy and I made the short drive to Caerhays beach to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and fresh sea air.  Caerhays beach forms part of the Caerhays Estate which has a beautiful 'big house' with very special gardens famed for their Camellias and Magnolias and well worth a visit in the Spring.

On the beach there were a few families also taking the opportunity to stretch theirs (and their dogs!) legs and also a couple of horses and their riders.  We took the opportunity to try out Guy's new wellies after discovering that his much-loved, hand-me-down 'Tractor Ted' wellies had a hole in them!

Come Summer or Winter - nothing better than a dig and a poke around in the sand!

Plenty of space to practice our silly walking!

We came home energised, refreshed and with a feeling not felt for a number of days - a little bit hungry - time to open that Selection Box!

Farm Friends - Guests of a different sort arrive!

Of course, here at Poltarrow we are used to receiving different kinds of guests from all over the world who come to stay here and discover our beautiful County.  This week we have some less typical guests turn up and who will be staying with us for a few months.

Around 40 sheep arrived from a neighbouring farm and will graze the wetter ground here at Poltarrow.  As the mild weather continues the grass is still growing so there is plenty around for the sheep. Peter's cattle's larger hoofs are kept off the wet ground during winter as they would leave big footprints and 'poach' the ground.

Introducing sheep also improves the pasture as they eat differently to the cattle because they nibble rather than rip the grass.  Another benefit is gained from their poo which fertilises the ground.

I hope they leave a good review on Tripadvisor!
